More photos than you can shake a stick at

Yes I have eventually got around to placing a selection of our photo collection from the trip on the Internet.
Please take a look in the web album and hopefully enjoy some of our memories.

I am currently enjoying the delights of the British winter, snow this morning for a short while until the inevitable rain descended and washed it away. I am sure Sue is finding the heat of the sun and the lure of the swimming pool just too much to bear back in SA. Thankfully my bones should feel the heat of the sun in under 2 weeks and Sue and I can get down to planning the next adventure to keep us out of trouble in 2009!

Life back in the Big City, it has some advantages doesn't it?

Well we have now been back in 'civilisation' for 4 weeks, our trip seems
like a life time ago! I would say it is great to be back, but is it?
Catching up with family and friends is one of the highlights, being in a big
busy smelly city one of the lows!
It took us a few days to get back into the swing of it, everything seems so
alien. Our normal daily routine has been smashed to pieces and our diet and
health have gone right down the toilet. Things like traffic and noise take a
bit of getting used to again, but it is nice to have shops just a few
minutes walk away where we can buy anything that we want.
Poor Mufasa seems to have been a bit unloved since our return, not
deliberately though. Civilisation brings good things and bad things with it.
Illness being one of the bad. We have not just been hit with the usual
onslaught of colds and runny noses , but I brought back a nice souvenir from
somewhere on our route back, Malaria! I guess the good thing about being
back here is that there is no shortage of medical care, if you have the
money, and thankfully after a couple of nights in hospital and a week on
drugs I am now fighting fit again! We dread to think how we would have
managed if we had been in the middle of nowhere still and one of us was
seriously ill.
Mufasa is now empty of all his goodies, somehow we have managed to stow
everything away in Bob's house, and with a service under his belt and a few
planned trips to get some issues sorted out he will be ready for whatever we
throw at him next.
As for our plans going forward, err, no decisions yet. We need some time to
get our heads relaxed and be able to think clearly about our next move. We
feel a bit of an Africa overload at the moment, but I am sure that will
pass. Unfortunately the downturn of the world economy is not helping much as
our income from savings is currently being hacked by a third thanks to the
interest rate cuts, bugger! So whatever comes next on our travels will have
to be a bit easier on the wallet than the last 5 1/2 months! At least the
price of diesel has come down a bit, every little helps.
I return to the UK on the 18th November for a couple of weeks to see family
and friends as well as sort out any urgent financial dilemmas! Sue is
staying put in SA as there is no real need for her to fly to the UK and
back, saves on an air fare too!! She also benefits from having an SA
passport so does not have to worry about damn visas!
So for the moment, we are just 'enjoying' being back in the hustle and
bustle, but our next escape is very much on our minds! Oh and for those of
you in far flung places around the world I am currently working on getting a
job lot of photos up into WWW land, so watch this space.
